Message from the Instructor
The tea ceremony is a time to quietly reflect on oneself and calm the mind. By practicing each movement, you will feel your daily life become richer and more beautiful. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, I will wholeheartedly assist you according to your individual pace. Please note, participation is only possible if you can attend with someone who can communicate in Japanese, as detailed explanations in Japanese are required.

Lesson Flow (approx. 40-60 min)
- Appreciating seasonal arrangements: Learn about the season and history through the hanging scroll and flowers in the tokonoma alcove.
- Wari-geiko (Split Practice) Beginners start with fundamental movements. Experienced students practice specific techniques tailored to their individual goals.
- Performing the Temae (Tea Ceremony) Under the instructor's guidance, practice the entire sequence of lighting charcoal and preparing tea.
- Savoring Tea and Wagashi (Japanese Sweets) Taste tea prepared by yourself or fellow students, learning guest etiquette.
- Reflection and Dialogue: Share insights from the day and receive guidance for the next session. Welcome and Greetings: Brief explanation of basic etiquette, including how to enter the tea room.
Important Notes (For Your Comfort)
- Handling Utensils: Please remove rings, watches, bracelets, etc., to avoid damaging the utensils.
- Footwear Preparation: Wearing white socks (or tabi socks) is required to protect the tatami mats and maintain the purity of the space.
- For Those Uncomfortable with Seiza: Depending on the lesson content, seating on chairs may be arranged. Please inquire in advance.
- Perfume: To fully appreciate the delicate aroma of tea and incense, please refrain from wearing strong perfume.
- Rescheduling: As sweets are prepared, please notify us of any absences or rescheduling requests by the day before.
